E90 engine oil leak experience

Re: E90 engine oil leak experience

For bros that is burning so oil, if you use 0/5w-30 oils it may happen you have to top-up 1L around 7-8k mark esp if you always rev the engine more.

Can try 0/5w-40 oils this is also another alternative to avoid topping up as this may help a bit.

PML says 1l every 7,500km is normal

Re: E90 engine oil leak experience

think unless ur car is over 140000km, its generally quite wise to use 5w 40 as a good compromise to engine protection and fuel efficiency/performance.

v unpleasant experience at francis ever since they got more popular...
went in to do my oil leaks, valve seal leaks, suspension and brakes over 3 occassions..
after they did my suspension during my second visit, got lot of knocking sounds frm undercarriage..

I went back 3 times ask them to fix during my subsequent servicingx, each time francis tells me later check for me, but after that he disappears or cant b bothered.
today I made my 3rd trip in admist the crazy ch3ckpoint jam specially to ask him rectify. he took in my car for 3 hrs n said will work on it. but when I came back, I saw my car in the same location, my things inside also untouched. asked him and he said he" tested " and needs more time cause still got sound. i dunno if he indeed tried to rectify but im skeptical
what pisses me off is that he keeps trying to put off this matter and made me a joker today. .. I took cab into town with my missus today n wasted 3 hrs before cabbing back agn. not to mention being stuck at checkpoint for an hr. this is a complete waste of my time.

I think their service rly dropped since more bros visited.. rly disappointing. I may resort going bck to pml for the sound :(

Re: E90 engine oil leak experience

it's normal when a workshop grow popular with many customers and pressing needs but there is only 1 x Francis
even Francis can delicate the tasks downstream, the mechanics could be working until tulan (hopefully they don't strike)

Whoops! Seems like the inevitable has begun to strike.... When a workshop grows popular, they have 2 choices: 1) take on more work with the same amount of resources, but sacrifice quality. 2) reject work to maintain quality.

It's easy to see which one most BUSINESSES will take. EVERY business is in for the profits - that's a fact. I guess the next step for Francis is really on how he can strategise and move in to scale up his business.

But of course, bro xiaofoggy's feedback is valuable, as it's like a first warning of things that may come...

Re: E90 engine oil leak experience

Hi bro lkm,

Shall we suggest to Francis he adopts a booking system, like seeing the doc, get your numbers for the day haha.

I noticed he gets alot of local walk in customers, and for SG bros taking the trip over, obviously even for me if work i was expecting to be done can't be done on the same day, i am wasting time and money making the trip going over too.

That's why for all the contacts i given out, i always suggest they call ahead, get a quote (if possible), THEN head over if you value not wasting your time on a trip that got nothing done.

That said, going to JB workshop is not as convenient like in SG when you can just drive impromptu to any of the workshop, if they are busy, then you come back another day (as the time involved sometime due to customs clearance can take >2 hr for the whole time).

I think for bro xiaofoggy feedback that he went 3 times and his problem wasn't resolved is an indication to taking on too much work, or no enough capacity to handle. I was told they work Mon-Sat, 9am to many times as late as 10-11pm.

The downside is like the booking system with many sponsor workshops here if they do go "more professional route", the queue may be as long as 1-2 weeks :(

But guys going to the JB workshop I still say please try to book ahead, and ask whether the type of work you require can be done within the time you have (e.g. 1/2 day, within the day etc). Sat they are less busy, customs traffic is light (i make my 40km drive there usually within an hour from my home) and try to bring your car in first thing in the morning, i.e 9am when they open. Week-days they are really busy. Hope my two cents help

Re: E90 engine oil leak experience

in view of high coe, many will keep their car longer ie: 4-5 years and more
hence, expect longer que in many workshops locally or jb for servicing, wear&tear replacement and problem solving

Re: E90 engine oil leak experience

Bro wt_know is right, Francis is the only one taking all the orders, dealing with the customers, sending clients to the permas jusco etc.

That said, he's got in his workshop a very experienced chinese foreman, 1 chinese (fat guy) mechanic, and 2 other skinny malay mechanics (the original team). There are a few new faces now he's expanded, but he is the sole "traffic controller" so as to speak and this guy is definitely doing his best, but i suspect very much over-loaded.

I would still go to his workshop for more bigger repairs (e.g. > S$500), minor stuff i'll say just get it done in the local sponsor workshops, avoid getting caught in the causeway jam esp on a week-day.

Re: E90 engine oil leak experience

Hi bro xiaofoggy,

I'll say that give Francis another chance, and get him to resolve it properly for you since you did your suspension there.

Alternatively, you can try Dr Rod from R2D (bukit batok) he should also be able to resolve it for you but do book ahead as he's also another one-man-show (or 1.5 man).

I had a undercarriage noise sometime back, and trouble-shooting to find the problem spot do take time, and eventually the culprit was a loose hose (that had to be restraint in the proper clip, that it came loose from).

Francis did it FOC, but i always stay in the workshop watching them, chatting with the mechanics, instead of leaving my car there to go shopping, so i do get my repairs done every single trip there, though sometime i have to spend a little longer at the workshop while they finished more urgent repairs. Hope this helps
