aberthen ... no $$ no talk ... welcome to Bring More Worries

i also need to drop by a workshop to check my ignition again ... sianz

hope its nothing serious for you!

Re: E90 - problem again

you may want to check and replace the spark plug or theey calle dit ignition coil, i forgot...

if you want, i can PM U the workshop to get them replaced. It's 4 pieces to replace at once.

The issue of jerking may be due to misfire and/or loss of power due to wea and tear of them.

Re: E90 - problem again

ok ... this is the similar problem that i got
in the video it's 'P' mode ... for my case 'P' mode steady poon pi pi ... sibei stable
but in 'D' mode (waiting @ traffic light) ... the rpm drop 100 and then up 100
probably MAF sensor dirty liao

Re: E90 - problem again

have you tried disconnecting the battery to allow the ECU to fully power down?

Re: E90 - problem again

Have you changed your spark plug?

IMHO looks very mild fluctuation dont worry too much lah. My old E90 had this exact same issue but drive very well till the day I sold it. I think spark plug change improved it.

i changed spark plug to bmw original just to be very sure not caused by aftermarket plug. still the same problem. yes, the fluctuation is minor and the car still drive perfectly no lack of power and smooth. but, i wonder what is the problem.

Re: E90 - problem again

can be a lot of things, probably not worth the time and money to troubleshoot

MAF sensor?
O2 sensor?
Valvetropic motor?
Dirty injectors?

Re: E90 - problem again

so for your case you live with it?
your case of rpm fluctuation happen in 'P' and 'D' mode?
my case is abit strange
'P' mode no fluctuation
'N' mode fluctuate tiny bit (did not feel the feedback but can see the rpm fluctuate and lesser)
'D' mode problem ... fluctuate every few secs ... can feel the feedback in brake and steering

MAF sensor?
O2 sensor?
Valvetropic motor? -> replaced already
Dirty injectors?

Re: E90 - problem again

Mine happens in any mode. If yours happen in D likely something else putting load on the engine causes it. Can be O2 sensor (more load = heat)

For dirty injectors, no harm try a dose of Redline SI-1 Fuel System Cleaner , one of the better fuel injector cleaner around.
I used used it frequenlyt for all my past ride and current 06 320i (milage ~145k) at every 20k interval.
It only cost $16 per bottle.

Re: E90 - problem again

Hi Guys

Can I know any of you all solve the issue? I am having the same problem. Have changed the spark plugs, valvetronic motor, updated the software and etc… The problem still persists. If you all have solve the issue, could you all tell me what is wrong and where did you all get it fixed?

Re: E90 - problem again

your rpm fluctuate in all mode P, N, D ?
the fluctuation is minimum or until engine rocking - refers to youtube video

Re: E90 - problem again

If its small fluctuation... ignore it lah. Really. Car is old already. Unless your engine stalls.

Re: E90 - problem again

No point guessing - plug the diagnostic machine in and pull the error codes out then see how.

Re: E90 - problem again

previously, error codes were "misfiring". car rocking like siao. very obvious ignition coil up lorry.

1. change ignition coil (4x)
2. change plug (4x)
- 1st change aftermarket nology plug
- 2nd change to bmw original after i complain rpm fluctuate

reinstall coil and plug. the 2nd time before leaving workshop, test and re-test, check and re-check with diagnostic machine = no error code. start car, drive 1 round from workshop, drive like pussy with rpm 1k-2.5k without sudden rev and stop, rpm steady and no fluctuation or at least fluctuation is very gentle and less.

once drive normally like rpm 1k-4k and sudden rev up and brake, when stop at traffic light, fluctuation resume.
+- 100 rpm (down 1 marker, up 1 marker) between 800rpm (steady) to 700rpm ...
engine still performing well and no lack of power.

like detach suggesting, probably have to live with it liao.
4 years old 80,000 milleage no more UDM liao ... sianz
UDM used by date is 4-5 year / 100k milleage whichever comes first ... :(
