Aircon has been putting out a smell when 1st starting up the car, smell does eventually go away after a while but was highly irritating. Tried most home remedies like turning the heater on full blast for 5 to 10 mins each week to try and kill the smell in the vents to no avail.
So ordered a bottle of 8 Line for all of $14.35 and DiYed it
(price now gone up to $15.90)

Whilst there changed out the cabin airlifters to the new HENGST Blue that's suppose to filter the PM 2.5 better.
Can't remember how much I paid for it ($80++) from here but.

There are 2 Pieces total and on the side there's an arrow which should be pointing towards the interior of the cabin.

Quick review for 8-line
Super easy to use, good for multiple flushes of the evaporator. I didn't use water like the video opting instead to pump the system till the foam was coming out the filter side then closed up the cabin filter housing and turn on the aircon fan only full blast to push the foam through the evaporator and repeated once more for effect.
For now the smell is gone replaced by a lemon scent, lets see how long this lasts.
Quick review for Hengst Blue Cabin Airfilter
Not much to say old cabin filter is only 2 years old and less then 20,000kms used. During its service life it was pulled out and vacuumed then rotated front to back every 6 to 7 months or so when I got bored. Blower airflow seems to be slightly lower now (hardly noticeable) maybe due to the additional layer that filters the 2.5 particles (like breathing through a N95 mask) or because its new.
Aircon is still nice and cold so no real issue there but yep I'd do it again sometime down the road just to keep things fresh.
