GB: iPod/iPhone Y-Cable for BMW

just note if you are connecting Ipod car charger together this jack, you will need to buy the proprietary AUX jack (skinny rubber head). Most aftermarket ones are quite thick therefore both cannot be plugged into the Ipod same time.

i filed 1 side of the AUD Jack flat to accommodate both. :nehnehhh:
How about Griffin Autopilot?
Griffin Technology: AutoPilot - Charge/control/play your iPod through your car's AUX-in port

Griffin Autopilot has an aux out. So, can use 3.5" jack on both end.

I am told by PML that the y-cable cannot be used for charging 3GS iPhone, only can charge 3G iPhone and ipod.
But the other function works fine.
Anyone can verify? If confirm, then I don't know wat cable to buy liao, sian....

Hi robot, if u see page 3 for a post by SEI, it tells u that the ycable cannot charge 3GS iPhone already. Hope this is useful.

Sharp, just to check:
1) Your ycable is the one with part number ending with 812?
2) Confirm u are using iPhone 3GS; and
3) Which month is your car manufactured?

Your answer may be able to help me confirm why my ycable doesn't work. I know it's partly due to the FireWire/USB charging issue but I can't figure out why it works for some people but not for others....

Thanks bro. U indeed has the latest phone and cable.
I suspect why yours is working is because BMW has done something to the 2009's car so that they can take the new 3gs USB charging.... Mine probably wasn't working because the car was manufactured in 2008 and BMW probably hasn't done anything to the car yet. Not very sure, just my theory....

Re: GB: iPod/iPhone Y-Cable for BMW

Hi,

Both Scosche (which I use) and Griffin sell adaptors that can connect into dock connectors that will previously not charge iPhones (such as my previous Alpine HU and current E81 ipod connector) and allow for charging. (It still won't play on the e81 business radio but at least solves a charging problem, say if you need to run a power consuming app such as Sygic navigation, etc.)
