Hi bros,

I've paid a visit to R2D yesterday evening for the ignition upgrade, along with changing to the Volker Spec II Plugs and Air Scooper.

As everyone had described about Rodney's great service, friendliness, and patience with all the technical explanations, his reputation stands. Even though I have just met Rodney and Nadia for the first time, they were both very friendly and welcomes me to their shop. As Rodney patiently listen to my hopes and concerns for various improvements, he has provided me the proper recommendation and explained, in details, on how each modification will help in improving my car's performances, including various demonstrations. I've learned so much from him from not only his explanations/demonstrations, but also during our chats while he was working on my car.

After completion, he asked me to take my car out for a spin around and test drive the new abilities. At first, I didn't feel much different. However, as I found some open roads, and stepped on the acceleration a little more, the gear shifting seems to be more responsive and faster, with lesser lag. (Thinking to myself, OK, there are some improvements, but not as much as I hope for, yet!)

After returning to R2D, provide my feedback and bid my goodbyes, I was looking forward to expanding the horizon with the new abilities of my baby when I drive back to the east. Unfortunately, the PIE was jammed with both traffic hour and accident! (Kind of pissed off that I cannot enjoy the newly added potentials!)

Slowly following the traffic and pass by the accident site, all of the cars have speed up and the road was, somewhat clear. (OK, great opportunity to test out the new mods on this baby!) As I step on the acceleration decently hard (but not to the extreme yet) the car, all of a sudden, picked up the speed, the RPM jumped to 5,000~6,000 instantaneously (and seems that the car is craving for 7,000!), and the gear shifting was fast and not much of a lag! (Oh man, I haven't felt this much thrill in this car before, and I'm passing other cars so easily and effortlessly!!)

I'm not sure whether if all this was the affect of the ignition upgrade, the new spark plugs, the air scooper, or combination of all three, but I LIKE WHAT RODNEY HAS DONE TO MY CAR VERY MUCH!!!

I'm so looking forward to get my car back on the road, on the express ways, and test out further and enjoy on what I have experienced yesterday, as well as finding out what more this combination mod can do further!

Rodney and Nadia, thank you very much for your friendliness, your patience and your introductions to my car's performance improvement! You have given my ride and my driving experience a whole new life and new BOOST to the word "FUN!"

Thanks for your kind words Jon. next comes the oils....

The dark side beckons. ha ha..

Re: Ignition Upgrades

With all the positive comments from this thread - 37 Pages and counting!!, i too got it done this morning....Am still grining :)

Rodney - Great Guy.
Nadia - Great Gal.
Workshop - Clean and cooling as compared to most that i have been
Volker II Sparkies - Sure looks like a designer plug. Performance above all
Mil Spec Ignition Upgrade - Someone once mentioned and i would have to agree that apart of the usual +++ we saw in this thread, my 6 pot was indeed more "creamier" on the run.

Re: Ignition Upgrades

Hi Rod
I have installed the plugs, upgrade ignition and did the air scoops. Love the shiokness!!!! However, I recently heard that after awhile our bmw smart onboard computer will switch back to default settings. This means the ignition cables and plugs will lose the benefits because it seems to recognise the driver's driving pattern (given if he/she not always heavy on the peddle). Can you pls share some light here? :huhhuh:
Thanks again.

Re: Ignition Upgrades

Actually, i am counting on the car's learning abilities to fully maximise the performance. The ignition and plugs that you installed basically increases the intensity of the spark that ignites your fuel/air mixture. With a stronger spark, the burning occurs more intensely and this actually makes your Air/Fuel ratio leaner. Your car reads this leaner mixture and compensates with a little more fuel. I have monitored my long term fuel trims and i have seen a 2-3% additional fuel being added. This gives you the additional power. As for efficiency, it all depends on your method of driving, most of the guys get addicted to the mod and keep flooring just for the sheer enjoyment. If you accelerate the same, you will notice less throttle pedal effort required.

The air scoop just promotes a cooler air intake temp and also ensures that there is no pressure differential (vacuum) caused by the intake orifice facing perpendicular to the axis of movement.

The short answer to your entire question is, NO. The mods are based on physics and they are governed by laws so they will feel the same until they physically fail.

If there is any chance that your car feels lethargic, it is because your gearbox wants to start off in 2nd gear to save fuel. To stop this from happening, step decisively on the throttle to your normal acceleration position. (this means that you do not slowly roll onto the pedal). That way, your car will see the urgency and start off on 1st.

Cheers

Re: Ignition Upgrades

Just got back from Rod's POISONOUS DEN.. woah really good lah this ignition upgrade.. did it with the air scoop and spec 2 plugs.. the car can really fly.. haha.. probably seen as a guy who's rushing to a toilet somewhere.. drove on the aye to ecp and all i did was to tap tap tap and still i'm going way above the speed limit.. haha

Its not a good to do.. its a MUST DO!! :laughlik:

Good job bro!

And now.. i need to upgrade the brakes.. hmm..

Re: Ignition Upgrades

let me help you out :whipper:

there are 2 ways you can find out (before you posted)...

1st way: google it. click on this - Let me google that for you

2nd way: there's a search function in this forum (at the top of the page in the function bar). using it will bring to to the thread where the pictures are.

have fun!

Unbelievable question! There are easily more than 2 threads on air scoops in this forum. This is a "kiam pa" question!

Now now, no need to get all worked up over an innocent question like this...you've just chased away a potential customer ;)

jinooi!! what did you do??!!!? :whatthe:

Re: Ignition Upgrades

Damn power man.. my fuel consumption was like damn high after i installed the spec II and ignition upgrade + engine oil change to voltronic + zinc. Cant help it to keep zhua-ing, never felt so smooth and powerful.

After all the upgrade, i took the advice to red line all the way to third gear for 3 sets for the zinc to coat on the engine parts. So i brought my car to the alternate runway as all the minor roads too short and keep zhuaing until no more fuel. Now i also cant help but to keep zhuaing :D

Re: Ignition Upgrades
