Oops...Plugs got hope of sending over but the ignition coil upgrades requires soldering onto your existing wiring harness.

The problem is that if i go, the E46ers also want to come along....for the first overseas job...how? Plane tickets?

Ha ha...

PM me and we try and work something out...

Cheers

buy me the plane ticket, economy is fine for me.

i'll throw in the installation, capacitors and spark plugs for free.

so when are you free? :)

Hehe...if anyone ever comes over make sure its summer and leave the women at home... :lol2:

Mykonos!!! Man, I miss that place.... :(

Re: Ignition Upgrades

We are now officially off-topic, but anyway....Mykonos is just one overrated island. There are thousands more you could see, everyone with its own unique beauty. There are islands where you can be almost alone, and there are islands with bars and clubs filed with people up to the early morning hours. Take your pic...

Re: Ignition Upgrades

Just did this upgrade. Feels like my car is on steriods now..esp in the mid range rpm.

Was pleasantly surprised by the improvement. I also did the Volker Spec plugs but pretty sure that the improvement was not only from the plugs.

Re: Ignition Upgrades

Stefos, Im already married to a greek chic, if i come, all you have is greek chics as well, no difference. Got anything else?

Rodney, how many have this upgrade now? My car feels normal now after 6 or so weeks with the upgrade, can we put 2 x capacitor per coil and see what happens? Twice the fun?

Re: Ignition Upgrades

yeah, i'll swap with you Rod

yes yes, insulated intake with that NASA insulation. Does the insulation come in black? I'll most likely be there Saturday. Depends if i got a hot date anot.

Damn Rodney, so irritating

Re: Ignition Upgrades

I might drop by on sat too.
With my dads car...

Rodney book me a slot ! after 4pm.

Re: Ignition Upgrades

i'll be around 12 -1pm.

i want my airbox to look stock, paint that NASA stuff matt black will ya

Re: Ignition Upgrades

if it's in black, will it still 'reflect' heat?

Nice, a e36 with the same upgrade. Tell more more more more.

Re: Ignition Upgrades

Jin, it could be purple with yellow polka dots, it would still work. It's the material that insulates.

Re: Ignition Upgrades

erm..just a quick question rodney. are the capacitors heat resistant, cause from experience a capacitor would fail when subjected to high temperatures. ask me how I know..

Seriously, I didn't think about it until last night when I couldn't feel the difference of the capacitor anymore (maybe used to it already). But here is some literature on thermal management on capacitors.

Thermal Management of Electrolytic Capacitors

Re: Ignition Upgrades

Right now, the capacitors that I am using are Military Spec components which means higher heat tolerances. (105Deg C instead of the 85Dec C you get with commercial products). I have had the caps in my own car for 2.5 years already and i have no problems. Yes electrolytic caps do have possibilities of failing but i have taken as much precautions as possible. If you like to play safe, replace them every 2 years.

Anyway, the article is a little off tangent cos the oil in the electrolytic caps are meant to insulate the metal foil layers wound around. The oil is not meant to conduct current as stipulated. This oil is similiar to the insulating oil you get in power transformers.

Mark, if you do not feel any difference, disconnect the +ve side at your coil end and drive your car. You will get an immediate difference.

Cheers
