Why garmen need to set a target year to hit 7M population when they know very well that the only way to achieve that is to increase migrants? They have enough politicians, economist, statistician, analyst of top grade to know this.

Why not implement solid policies during Budget 2013 that will ensure increase in birth rates amongst Singaporeans like:
1) make sure all married couples who have kids or who intend to have kids within 1 yr to automatically qualify for purchase of hdb flats immediately without balloting
2) all low income families with kids get up to 80-100% subsidy for child care centers
3) abolish Coe and set limit on car sales monthly. With or without Coe, they are still controlling new car population. Allow families with kids to have first option on application basis.
4) special subsidy programs to purchase hdb for families with kids.

By allowing real income of young Singaporeans to increase surely improves their psychological barrier to make babies!

We are not a socialist state.... And for that, I'm personally thankful.

You see - some of these gaps have to be filled by foreigners. Skilled labour in particular.

As for the white collar foreigners or the ang mors, isn't that decisions undertaken by the private sector? Example a foreign bank hiring their citizens running the ops here?

The issue is not the influx of foreigners. The issue is the way it is managed, logistically and socially.

I know the recipe for disaster...Opposition or WP take over the gov in 2016....... Nonetheless i concur that some Papies need to be farked...WKS and MBT....How can one guy let in so many foreigners and the other guy still sleeping and dreaming that there is oversupply of housing and not doing enough to beef up the public transport????

our govt dept are never that creative nor inventive
and can't be relied on to selectively screen and
allow real foreign talents and migrants base
on occupational weightage like the Aussie system

Lui should attend some public communication course, Khaw is reacting to huge undersupply housing creasted by his predecessor and Michael Palmer could be WP's Trojan horse..

when i listen to the radio call in ... i was laughing non stop
a lot of callers ask for

1. give baby bonus
2. give free childcare
3. no maid levy
4. give 1st priority to 'preferred' school
5. give free education ... some asked until university
6. give 1st priority to hdb ... cheap and good best is in central core region

then another caller said .. might as well ask govt to do 1-dragon service

from baby > childcare > school > university > dating service > get married > hdb > making baby > cycle repeats

or yeah ... one more thing ... many asked for worklife balance in 'disguised' ... actually means no need to work but get super high pay
