Volker Racing Spark Plugs

Re: Volker Racing Spark Plugs

Oh yes.

Volker has been very supportive to me and with the recent surge of plugs sold ( thanks to you guys) They have DHL me another batch of plugs at their cost. I now have 6ZX and 7ZX back in stock. The 6ZX can replace those for japanese cars and the 7zx for high reving engines. The resistance change are no longer issues.

I will be passing some to Rodney and he will bring them for your meetup. The 6ZX is $90 for 4 pcs while the 7ZX is $100.
They all come with a 1yr warranty from Volker backed by UM2.

Regards

CP

You are forgetting that car manufacturers also work on a tight budget and that every cent saved equates to thousands of dollars at the end of the year. Small specialists manufacturers have the ability to delve indepth into specific areas and come up with innovative solutions.

Hi CP, it is true that because of scale of production and selling that cents saved add up to large amounts, but it is also true that these companies are rich companies who already have the test rigs and test cars, along with everything I mentioned earlier on to test components. In areas that manufacturers do not dabble much in at all (eg. exotic material, DLCs, etc.) small highly specialized companies definitely can come up with new stuff. However in terms of maintaining drivability and reliability, I am still of the opinion that no one beats the manufacturers. Maybe companies as large, old, and with as much knowledge as Ricardo can get close or compete, but few else I would trust.

I can agree with your last statement but only to a certain extent. The car system on the whole is optimised for everyone everywhere. There are areas that can be further optimised to suit the environment.

CP

My view is that with intelligent ECUs searching for thresholds and watching everything so closely, alternate modes of operation at the ready, changing one part of the system without adversely affecting anything else is most likely not worth the time, money, and effort. Modern ECUs are also able to compensate and optimize for a whole range of enviromental factors. I don't really even feel good talking about this in general terms. If a specific problem is laid out, then it would be easier to discuss it. An example is how an enthusiast willing to sacrifice a bit of emissions cleanliness for some power has trouble properly making changes because of the restrictiveness of modern control systems.

I know we don't see eye to eye on these issues and this discussion could go on and on with a hundred points raised on either side, but I hope we can agree to disagree. With such a great warranty backing these plugs, your customers needn't worry much anyway. :)

Respectfully,
Shaun

Re: Volker Racing Spark Plugs

Can someone explain "gap" or "gapping" in relation to spark plugs?

thanks in advance!

Re: Volker Racing Spark Plugs

Gapping refers to the physical space between the points where the spark jumps across. Large gaps allow for larger flame fronts. The problem with large gaps is that the ionisation voltage rises and the ignition coil may not be able to generate sufficient VOLTAGE to ionise the gasses. Small gaps and the flame front decreases but the spark current increases.

Finding the optimum gap is a fine balance that seeks to have as large a gap as possible while still maintaining firing stability.

Cheers

Re: Volker Racing Spark Plugs

Hi yendor,
Just wonder wat time did UM2 open???? Cos today I try to call them the whole morning, no answer at all. AT the end I do drive dwn to the workshop at Kranji, but saw the door is close.

And pls advise which spark plugs should i get for my 320i(2003 model), the 7zx-11 or 7zx-08 or 6zx-11?????

Thank u. :whatthe:

Re: Volker Racing Spark Plugs

Ha ha.. i know why CP open late.... One Man Operation had to deliver oil...

Usually open at 1030am. If you can make it today at about 5.30pm, i'll be there.

You use the same plugs as me. 7ZX-08. The difference between the -08 and -11 is the gap size and that can be readjusted. So no worries. Just worry about the 7zx or 6zx number.

Cheers
